Girl's Getaway

Girls Tennis Getaway: Sea Island, Georgia

After years of talking about this type of mommies getaway...it actually happened. Scheduling ladies around their children, families and dogs is a nightmare and not all 4 of us were there for the same duration, but we did it. Here’s how it went down.

Off to the airport, I couldn’t shake the feeling like I was forgetting something...or... absolutely everything? My husband, my three children, my dog!

All that mattered was that I had my license and my boarding pass. A few hours where I spotted a stack of Women’s Golf Journals in the lounge which has our first official advertisement on the inside cover spread (tiny plug but totally true-it’s a gorgeous magazine, you should check it out). A glass of wine and my flear of flying gone away. Excitement sets in.

As we pull into Sea Island Resort I spy the Spanish moss dripping from every tree. So full of character this land and I’m sure has many stories to tell.

The first night’s sleep was hard. I had to get snuggly with buppy, lamby and bear (my kids lovies) the first night away.

It didn’t take long to settle in.

Sunday morning we head to the courts first thing. We check in for our tennis lesson all in Hedge, lady behind the counter complimented us “y’all look so fab!”

Thank you to my beautiful friends who make us look good. We’re going to have to make this kind of trip part of our business plan because guess what!? Hedge will be available at Sea Island this Summer.

Tunes were bumpin’ on the court for the AM clinics and I thought-how sinful that I’m not at church but I’m so happy! I thanked God for the good weather and sweet friendships and felt better.

Post-tennis we would have headed straight for the pool to cool off but instead we had to go back to the room to change-contorting our bodies and pulling muscles to get sweaty sports bras off. We ended up showering before the pool which defeats the purpose of the pool entirely. Enter...The Hedge Play and Plunge bathing suit/sports bra & underwear combo. It would have come in handy this day because we simply could have taken off our shirts and skirts Baywatch style and jumped right in.

We made it to the pool and a couple of salads, chapters, gossip sessions and cat naps later, we finally earned our cocktails. All wrapped up in sarongs we sauntered over to the bar and discovered the Basil Blueberry Margarita; addictive! Our bartender might have been bitter but his drinks are sweet, Cheers!

Blueberry Basil Margarita

    flaked sea salt
    5.3oz blueberries
    1.7fl oz tequila
    1 tbsp triple sec
    1 tbsp lime juice
    1 tbsp agave nectar
    2 small basil leaves
basil leaves and lime wedges to garnish

Slice a lime wedge and wipe the edge of your glass so the salt will adhere to it. Dip the glass into a plate filled with sea salt and set aside.
Put blueberries, agave nectar, basil and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and muddle. Strain blueberry pulp through sieve and press down with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible from the berries.
Put the tequila, triple sec and blueberry juice in cocktail shaker half filled with ice and shake for 30 seconds.
Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass and add some cracked ice if you like. Garnish with a lime wedge and a small basil leaf.

An evening full of sunset watching, southern food eating and old friends catching up with each other was just what the doctor ordered. Lights out.

Day two included more of the same, and we particularly enjoyed reading side by side horizontal on pool chairs-some of us in the shade, some of us in the sun.

This blissful book reading led us to share our newest favorite reads and one book I bought at the shop was particularly inspiring and I came up with the idea for our Hedge Summer Bookmark! Stay tuned for our full list of favorites in the next blog by none other than our best friend, librarian and fellow Hedge Hog Christina. Find her @spdylibrarian on Twitter.

Sea Island is a dream. Check it out on www.seaisland.com or @sea_island on Instagram. No they don't pay us to say that....it's just perfection. Sprawling resort full of residences, and multiple secluded townhouse style hotel rooms with gorgeous private courtyards. You should see the room - I didn't take a photo, but it was a gorgeous suite with a bedroom like a cave.

We moved in and the bathroom counters were full of  P R O D U C T. Hedge items spread all over every surface-chairs, hooks and benches. We wore ourselves out after 2 days of hard core tennis, soaking in the sun, a christening of first chlorine of the season, and too much wine.

There were unavoidable piles of face product from four women to try and get back our organic only glow. We decided to compare notes on face care and we got sucked into watching live feeds on Instagram @knockout.beauty. Incredibly educational and it's like she's your sister in your home-she literally talks to you when you join the feed! We plan to do a full blog on the matter, but for now a few recommendations:

Elta MD Facial sunscreen 45
Best friend and dermatologist Dr. Eliott T. Weiss recommends it. The only non-clogging sunscreen I’ve found that doesn’t leave you looking like a white faced ghost! And, it comes in tinted too.

Vintner’s Daughter Face Oil

This is totally magic. After we take everything out of our skin with washes and put in pollutions all day-this is the perfect restorative oil.

Patchology Flash Patch Eye Gel Pads

For the pre-red carpet or morning meeting immediate collagen fill-look like you're 10 years younger deal.

Skin Medica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

Dermatologist Dr. Berson recommends. It's great for dark spots, acne prone skin and generally flaking off that city toxic air.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

It's not mousse. It's not hair spray. It's SUPER SPRAY! Great for thin hair needing a boost. Post blow out, helps it last all day.

I must admit, I did work while I was gone. BUT....I came. I played, I drank, I slept, I gossiped, I ruminated on my marriage, I talked with my friends about how we can create a better world for our children's future.
