This vintage sweater is a classic. We found this perfectly pink sweater at the Manhattan Vintage Fair. This vintage v-neck Lacoste "IZOD" tennis sweater has a tag that says "Izod and Lacoste". Here's a little history on Izod and Lacoste. René Lacoste established La Chemise Lacoste in 1933 alongside André Gillier, who was the owner and president of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm of that era. They produced the tennis shirt that Lacoste had designed and worn, featuring an embroidered crocodile logo on the chest. The company asserts that this was the first instance of a brand name appearing on the exterior of a garment. In the 1950s, Izod began producing clothing branded as Izod Lacoste under a licensing agreement for the U.S. market. This collaboration concluded in 1993 when Lacoste reacquired the exclusive rights to distribute its shirts in the United States. We love these little nuggets of history that make our pieces special to us.
