  • The beauty of pickleball is that anything goes! You can wear gym attire, tennis attire, or even jeans and no one would look at you funny.

    If you want to get into the nitty gritty of the difference between pickleball and tennis attire there are a few listed below but it mainly depends on where you are playing and who you might be playing with if you want to fit in. A lot of these "rules" are unsaid so it's an excellent question to ask.

    The style for pickleball is truly the same as any racket sport. You can wear the same clothes for all racket sports unless the place you are playing has attire regulations.

    Pickleball Style

    • Colorful, playful combos and patterns

    Tennis Style

    • In a country club setting, it's generally more conservative color wise with solid classic colors and can often be "whites only". You can wear dresses, Tank tops, Tee shirts, Polo shirts with skirts or shorts are safe. You do not need a collar or to cover your shoulders on tennis courts.
    • Leggings and gym attire are found mostly at hard courts and indoor courts.

    The safest outfit to wear on any court pickleball or tennis or padel is a cute skirt with a tank top. No one will look at you funny.

    Awkward Scenario 1:

    You show up to a country club tennis court in black leggings and a cropped tee gym outfit. While this might be fine according to their attire regulations, your message to players is that you don't play "their kind of tennis" and you don't belong there.

    You show up to a public outdoor facility like a school to play on hard courts with friends in all white outfit. There is certainly nothing wrong with us, but you are telling people you don't belong there right out of the gates.

    Awkward Scenario 3:

    You are an excellent tennis player. You get invited to play tennis in a big city at a huge indoor court facility. You want to look cute so you show up in a dress. If the players are very serious, they might not take you seriously enough in a dress.

    • Find out where you are playing and check their site for attire regulations.
    • Ask your friend what you plan to wear or give her 2 options of what you might wear and she'll tell you what's more appropriate
